Gene Ontology

Gene Ontology is a very big part in gene & protein study. Gene Ontology actually has 3 parts in it.
  1. Describe the function of the gene
  2. Role in multi-step biological processes
  3. Localization in cellular component

It is believe that every gene has a GO number. The GO number will describe the function of the gene.

It also describe the roles in multi-step biological processes. As i feel that it is going out of the main point, i shall not explain this point in detail.

It also can tell us where this gene is located in the call. Example a GO number 0015629 is actaully an 'actin cytoskeleton' which is in the cytoplasm of the call.

Here is a link to Gene Ontology Consortium which provides access to the ontologies, software tools, annotated gene product lists, and reference documents describing the GO and its uses.

Many thanks to wikipedia and www.geneontology.org/ for the information.

PS : This is just a blog posting, if there is anything wrong in the information in this post, please do not sue me, just think of it as my personal believe. :p
